McVeigh dies, and sister churches
protest
[6-11-01]
As Timothy McVeigh was put to death today by the
government of the United States, sister and brother Christians around
the world have been watching.
The World Alliance of Reformed Churches issued a
statement today in which it "reaffirms its unconditional opposition
to the death penalty." The statement continues, "It makes no
sense to kill people who kill people to show that killing people is
wrong: there is a contradiction between what we say and what we
do." The headline over the statement read, "Friends don't let
their friends execute their citizens!" Check the WARC

At the Witherspoon luncheon yesterday, an announcement
was made inviting people to join in a vigil Sunday afternoon at the
Presbyterian Center. And at the General Assembly today, prayers were
said and silence was observed in various gatherings for worship.
