Petitioning for Peace |
| Join Nobel Laureates in petitioning for
peace
** A Petition for
Peace and Non-Violence **
[12-5-01]
American Friends Service Committee has been gathering signatures for a
petition authored by a group of Nobel Peace Prize Laureates that calls
on the United Nations to chart a new course in the global response to
terrorism.
Among the recommendations are
 | that the UN require that any actions taken in
response to the attacks of September 11th be guided by
international law; |
| that the UN organize an international conference on
terrorism to investigate its root causes and to propose measures to
address those causes; |
| and that the UN call upon the governments and
peoples of the world to take concrete steps in developing a cultures
of peace and nonviolence. |
If enough signatures can be garnered, AFSC will present the petition at
the Nobel Peace Prize ceremonies in Oslo. The deadline for posting
signatures is December 31st, so please act today. The
petition can be found at http://www.peaceresponse.org/petition/index.shtml.
