Waterford, CT -- Presbyterians from all over the United States,
including a former moderator of the General Assembly, will travel to
Israel/Palestine from October 22 to November 3 as part of the first
joint delegation sponsored by the Presbyterian Peace Fellowship (PPF)
and the Christian Peacemaker Teams (CPT). While in the Middle East the
trip participants will meet with both Israeli and Palestinian peace
workers in Jerusalem and Bethlehem, as well as Presbyterian mission
workers and partners. They will also spend part of the trip in Hebron
with the permanent CPT team, where they will experience and participate
in the violence reduction work of CPT, which includes nonviolent direct
action.
The Rev. John Fife of Tucson, AZ, former moderator of
the Presbyterian Church (USA) General Assembly, is among the delegation
participants. The Rev. Christine Caton of Waterford, CT, delegation
co-leader and staff for the Presbyterian Peace Fellowship, said,
"At this time in our country, it becomes even more important for us
to travel to the Middle East to be a strong witness for peace in the
world."
Other delegation participants include: Albert Bagley
(Bellevue, WA), Carol Drew (Wellesley Island, NY), Joan Heckel
(Pittsburgh, PA), Joseph Heckel (Pittsburgh, PA), Gene Lefebvre
(Phoenix, AZ), Vivian Lovingood (Pittsburgh, PA), Alexandra Lusak (Troy,
NY), Matthew Moore (Tucson, AZ), Arch Taylor (Louisville, KY), Rick
Ufford-Chase (Tucson, AZ), Marilyn White (League City, TX).
The Presbyterian Peace Fellowship is an affinity group
associated with the Presbyterian Church (USA), formed in the 1940's to
support conscientious objectors. Today it continues to be a witness to
the nonviolent Jesus Christ in the church and the world.
The Christian Peacemaker Teams is an initiative of
North American Mennonite and Church of the Brethren congregations and
Quaker meetings who support violence-reduction projects around the
world. |

this new blog for Voices of Sophia, introduces it:
After fifteen years of scholarship
and activism, Voices of Sophia presents a blog. Here, we present the
voices of feminist theologians of all stripes: scholars, clergy,
students, exiles, missionaries, workers, thinkers, artists, lovers
and devotees, from many parts of the world, all children of the God
in whose image women are made. .... This blog seeks to glorify God
through prayer, work, art, and intellectual reflection. Through
articles and ensuing discussion we hope to become an active and
thoughtful community. |
